Rented a Conley Cherry Tree as a gift for a friend, went to pick them today, all we can say is they were the best cherries we have ever tasted, big and juicy and lots of them, lovely day out, with places to picnic, lovely family day out, thank to Mark and Simon for showing round, thanks again, already planning to book two trees for next year, think this will be an annual event. lovely day, thank you.
This was the first year we rented our Cherry Tree. Having spent many years driving to Kent to buy cherries during harvest time we wanted to do the harvesting ourselves. We were not disappointed, the Hartford tree we rented had plenty of cherries on, which more than offset the rental cost. Cherry Ice Cream has been made and is already being consumed , further cherries frozen for future batches to be made plus exceptional Cherry jam. We will definitely be back next year .
We have rented a cherry tree for three years, and what has made this a particular pleasure is that it’s clear Mark has a passion for his business, from the first welcome to driving off with a bucketful of cherries. Viewing the cherry blossom and picking the cherries is a great family activity, and our son loves it. Regular email updates on crop progress and other interesting information also complements the experience, as does the yearly optional pruning course. We would thoroughly recommend Bentinck Farm for a tree rental; the taste of the cherries is to die for. Buy now – you won’t regret it!
Just picked our jonagold tree. What a plethora of apples, gorgeous looking and very sweet and juicy. Thanks Mark for your hospitality and generosity this afternoon, and for providing such lovely weather for it. I’ve just signed up for Steph and myself for next year, cherries, cobnuts and two sorts of apples. We thoroughly recommend Bentinck Farm. An opportunity not to be missed, especially if like us you’re committed to ethical sourcing of produce, supporting local producers and suppliers, and reducing as much as possible waste and packaging. And such fantastic value. Now to figure out where we’re going to store them all.
We had a lovely morning in the peaceful orchard in the sun and the Bramleys are delicious and are storing well in the garage. The smell when you open the door is wonderful. We are having apple pie every week and it hardly needs any sugar, as you pick the apples at the right time when they are sweeter. Delicious! We are looking forward to the Jonagold tree picking shortly.
Oh wow! What a fabulous first year of renting this was – a Hartford and a Sunburst. The Hartford yielded two huge fruit boxes full of delicious sweet cherries. Some splitting this year from the heavy rains a week ago, but didn’t matter at all – taste all there! The Sunburst were even sweeter if at all possible, although crop lower – as indeed advised on web site. Huge thanks to generosity of Mark for allowing us to pick some off adjacent trees to make up for that, although to be honest the huge crop of Hartford more than compensated for the lower yield of Sunburst. To add to the cherry harvest was the pleasure of a day picking in the sun with friends (recommend day out with family/picnic) – and meeting fruit farmer Mark with his infectious enthusiasm for the fruit, the growing, and the simple pleasures of enjoying real food fresh from the tree. As well as heaps of fresh cherries for family/friends, many are now frozen (whole frozen cherries work fabulously when defrosted into fruit salads/stirred into yoghurt and desserts etc … and not a few are steeped in alcohol of various kinds for enjoyment later in the year and for Christmas prezzies! Can’t recommend highly enough, and will be back later this year for apples and nuts as well as for cherries again next year. IF IN DOUBT, GO FOR IT!!
